Dockers wants to return to the golf green
At the Roosevelt Golf Course, in the Griffith Park district of Los Angeles, Dockers and Malbon Golf celebrated their first collaboration, marking the return of the Levi Strauss & Co
“The story of Dockers and golf is not new”, said Nick Rendic, global head of design at Dockers. “The brand had already entered the discipline in the mid-90s. If our presence was then more discreet, we maintain a very natural link with this sport.”
To mark its return to the greens, Dockers chose the format of the collaboration and joined forces with the fashionable label, Malbon Golf, founded by Stephen Malbon, former founder of Frank151 media group and magazine, and Erica Malbon, the former founder of Now Spa in Los Angeles. Together, the two brands opted for a first drop of 11 pieces before a second planned for the end of summer.
“Dockers revolutionized the workwear silhouette and the daily life of men in the late 80s with its casual Friday wear outfits,” explained Stephen Malbon. “Today, we want to shake up the traditional golf wardrobe by inviting a more fashionable and relaxed spirit. From now on Justin Bieber, Travis Scott play golf with our outfits, and all this contributes to embarking a new generation on the greens. We are here to have fun, to make fun of manners, while respecting the rules.”
Launched in 2017, the Malbon Golf label has quickly established itself among the rising brands of the new golf generation in the United States, imposing a style influenced by streetwear. After a first store opened in Los Angeles (now closed), the brand will inaugurate other stores this year, in New York, Montauk (East Hampton), Carmel (California) and in South Korea, where it has signed a partnership with a distributor, which will lead to four store openings in the coming months.
In detail, the first drop from Dockers X Malbon Golf presents an 11-piece limited edition capsule and includes a tapered fit Original Chino and Chore Coat, both of which come in either khaki hemp twill or white linen canvas. There is also a golf-inspired Playa Short which comes in both khaki hemp twill and mint green linen canvas. Tops for the collections include two classic golf styles – a washable merino Sweater Polo in khaki or mint green and a knit Pique Polo shirt in either white or navy. Khaki overall is added to the range, and pays homage to Dockers’ favorite color and the super relaxed style of Malbon.
