Margot Robbie is having a moment. The Australian actor, who will star as Barbie in the Greta Gerwig–directed film of the same name later this year, has been branching out when it comes to her red-carpet style—and we love to see it.
For her UK premiere of Babylon on Thursday, January 12, the 32-year-old wore a shapeless, backless Valentino gown, and she looked ah-mazing in it. Not any easy look to pull off, the bright-red high-neck gown came straight from the fashion house’s spring-summer 2023 Unboxing collection.
Robbie paired the look with a messy low bun and matching red lipstick as she posed next to costar Brad Pitt on the red carpet.
The look makes a stark change from her Golden Globes look earlier this week; the star arrived at the LA ceremony on Tuesday wearing a pastel pink fitted Chanel gown, which reportedly took a cool 750 hours to make.
Several fans of the actor were disappointed in the pink ensemble, however, because they thought she had been “freed” from her Chanel contract after donning designers such as Alaïa and Bottega Veneta late last year. Robbie has been an ambassador of the French fashion house since 2018 and tends to favor the designer for her red-carpet looks.
“I thought Margot Robbie was out of Chanel. Why do they continue to do this to her?!?” one fan lamented on Twitter, while another added, “Bit of a jump scare from Margot Robbie wearing custom Chanel.”
So it’s safe to say that style watchers will be happy with her Valentino gown—but we, for one, are excited about her looks during the Barbie press tour. Robbie recently told Jimmy Fallon that she and Ryan Gosling (who plays Ken) were “mortified” when they were snapped in their Barbie outfits while filming at Venice Beach last year.
“I can’t tell you how mortified we were, by the way,” she said, adding, “We look like we’re laughing, having fun, but dying on the inside. I was like, ‘This is the most humiliating moment of my life.’ So embarrassed.”
