Julia Garner graced the red carpet in a look worthy of her double nomination at this year’s Golden Globes. Styled by Elizabeth Saltzman, Garner—already a double Emmy winner—selected a pale pink Gucci gown with a corset-style bustier with sparkling boning and straps. To complete the look, the actor slicked her halo of blonde curls into a chic pixie and Madonna-inspired bangs accented by a slight winged eyeliner and mauve lip.
Tonight Garner is nominated for best actress in a limited series, anthology series, or motion picture made for television for her nuanced portrayal of faux-heiress Anna Sorokin (a.k.a. Anna Delvey) in Netflix’s Inventing Anna, as well as for best supporting actress in a musical-comedy or drama series for her recurring role as Ruth Langmore on Netflix’s Ozark.
Throughout the production of Inventing Anna, Garner spent hours studying and meeting with Delvey. In fact, it was Garner’s idea to wear fake teeth for the role—a subtle touch that instantly gave her angular features a much-needed dose of Delvey’s baby-doll roundness. But as you can probably imagine, learning to replicate Delvey’s ever-evolving accent proved to be the biggest challenge.
“I had three weeks to prepare and learn the accent, which was very difficult,” Garner told Glamour. “I didn’t know what she sounded like because there were no videos on the internet. So there’s nothing to play with, in a way. I could have done just a German accent, but it’s not a German accent or Russian accent or an English accent. This is definitely going to be the hardest accent I’ll ever do in my career because it’s so consistently inconsistent.”
