Amal Clooney often wears vintage on the red carpet, some of which has included John Galliano slip dresses and 2000s Alexander McQueen. At the Cartier Women’s Initiative Awards in Paris on May 10, though, she opted for another sustainably minded choice, in the form of eco couture.
For the event Clooney, who spoke onstage about the importance of standing up for women’s rights, wore a dazzling silver dress from Julie de Libran’s autumn-winter 2022 couture collection, embellished with sequins and featuring a feathered hem. The Paris-based couturier uses deadstock materials to create her one-off designs, in a bid to reduce waste—making it the perfect addition to the human rights lawyer’s wardrobe.

Clooney is known for having a penchant for sequins (and feathers): At a London premiere in 2021, the mother-of-two wore a glittering snow white dress by 16Arlington, a brand she’s turned to several times over the years. Meanwhile, while enjoying a summer holiday in Lake Como last year, she showed off a number of head-turning party dresses, including a mint-green sequined mini by Ermanno Scervino.
With the Clooneys likely to head to Lake Como again for their annual vacation, expect to see more sequined dresses from Amal Clooney this summer. Here’s hoping for more vintage and eco-conscious looks to come too.
