Kerry Washington is swimming with the fishes, so to speak. On Tuesday, October 18, the Scandal shared a video reveal of her angular new bob—what looks to be a jellyfish cut—ahead of the premiere of her new film, The School of Good and Evil.
The video begins with two oversized “before” pictures of Washington looking…not her best? The photos are pulled back Princess Diaries to reveal Washington with full glam and a jellyfish bob.

Washington styled the new do with a minty green cropped polo paired with a shiny maxi skirt featuring ruching detail in the front. The whole look—including her vibrant red lip—is giving 21st-century mermaid, for sure.
The jellyfish cut is one of the trendiest, edgiest ways to wear layers. “It’s a ‘half short, half long’ mullet style,” Raven Hurtado, stylist at Maxine Salon, told Glamour in August. “The jellyfish cut has disconnected sections, with the top section [having] very short layers while the bottom layer is long and textured.” The top section is short and rounded, resembling a short bob or a bowl cut, while the longer layers resemble tentacles, which is how it got its “jellyfish” name.
Washington stars opposite Charlize Theron in Netflix’s The School for Good and Evil, out on Netflix Wednesday. Here’s the synopsis of the film, based on the best-selling book of the same name, from Netflix: “Best friends Sophie and Agatha find themselves on opposing sides of an epic battle when they’re swept away into an enchanted school where aspiring heroes and villains are trained to protect the balance between good and evil.”
One thing’s for sure: Washington’s new look is undeniably “good.”
