If you saw the photos of Ryan Gosling on roller skates while shooting the new Barbie film last summer, then you probably haven’t been able to get it out of your memory either.
Dressed in a bright pink two-piece with neon green knee pads and a bum bag, the actor was skating next to his co-star Margot Robbie, who plays Barbie, in a matching full neon get-up.
It’s one of the many moments that have gone viral in the lead-up to the Barbie film release, including movie poster memes and Margot Robbie on-set wearing western-style flairs with a matching cowboy hat — which fashion shopping platform LYST credits for a 416% increase in search results for all things pink.
All of this has inspired yet another TikTok-famous micro-trend that ends in “-core”. And that trend is, of course, Barbiecore — which has gotten 302 million views on the app to date.
First found floating around on FYPs last summer, it’s managed to have a longer life-cycle than most things on the video-sharing app as new Barbie-inspired moments continue to hit viral status.
Most recently, Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling brought the pink-centric trend into their off-screen wardrobe when attending CinemaCon.
Not to mention that, after helping Valentino develop its all-pink FW22-23 collection, Pantone announced that Viva Magenta (a deep pink shade) is the color of the year for 2023.
With only 2 months till the film releases, featuring every celebrity actor imaginable in the cast, it looks like OTT pink goodness is yet to reach its peak. So to prepare ourselves for a Barbiecore summer, we’ve done some shopping.
