Traditional wisdom warns against wearing a wedding dress for reasons other than marriage. It would be like announcing to the universe, “I really don’t care about romantic fate, please bring on the misfortune!” as if to take a sledgehammer to the sanctity of it all.
The rules aren’t quite as clear-cut when it comes to bridal-coded lingerie, though. And so Bella Hadid–who has long been one of the celeb-scape’s most experimental dressers–investigated the phenomenon when she broadcast an all-white two-piece with delicate fastenings and broderie anglaise trims across TikTok’s For You page.

The video is the latest in a series of posts soft-launching the model’s return to work. Earlier this week Hadid announced that she had finally returned to a place of good health after receiving 100 days of treatment for a Lyme disease flare-up. “Living in this state, worsening with time and work while trying to make myself, my family, and the people who support me, proud, had taken a toll on me in ways I can’t really explain,” she said. “To be that sad and sick with the most blessings/privilege/opportunity/love around me was quite possibly the most confusing thing ever.”
Over the course of Hadid’s three-month absence from public life, fashion observers have been starved of the model’s chaotic and bizarre and genius approach to getting dressed in the morning. Fashion publications have been scrambling for content. Stan accounts have been recycling archive images. Depop has no doubt taken a significant financial hit too. And while Hadid will make her catwalk comeback in due course—“I’ll be back when I’m ready,” she said—she has nonetheless “returned when the world needed her most,” as one TikTok user commented.
