Just as Bella Swan wore a boot and a Converse sneaker to her prom, Kristen Stewart ditched her Oscars red-carpet heels the very first second she could.
Nominated for best actress for her portrayal of Princess Diana in Spencer, the actor attended the 2022 Academy Awards in an iconic Chanel suit, complete with short shorts and an open white collared shirt. Naturally, Stewart paired the punk rock look with a pair of pumps…which she traded for socks and loafers immediately after completing her step-and-repeat duties, according to eagle-eyed entertainment writer Amy Kaufman.
“Kristen Stewart immediately changed out of heels and into flats the second she got off the red carpet. Amen, girl,” Kaufman reported.

Stewart walked the Oscars red carpet hand in hand with her fiancée, Dylan Meyer. Upon further inspection, it does appear as though Stewart heels are a size too big to walk in comfortably.
Later in the evening Stewart changed into a completely different Chanel for the Vanity Fair after-party. This time she opted for a black lace gown, socks, and platform sandals. A great combination of fashionable and comfortable!
This is hardly the first time Stewart has made flat shoes a red-carpet staple. She often pairs them with suits for a sophisticated but approachable look. In 2016 she even wore blue sneakers on the Cannes red carpet despite the festival’s semi-official policy that women must wear heels. In 2018 she protested again by removing her shoes altogether while on the red carpet.
On and off the red carpet, she’s a lace-up devotee. By 2012, she had worn over ten different pairs of sneakers to various events.
The woman just does not want to keep heels on. She pulled this move in 2017, 2016, 2015, at Venice, at Cannes, at premieres, wherever. And why shouldn’t she take them off? They pinch your toes, wreak havoc on your knees, and strain your back. Maybe next time Chanel can provide a pair of flats that Stewart can wear all night long.
