Bella Hadid just took two of the greatest fictional fashion icons of the ’90s and early 2000s and smooshed their style together—with her own personal flavor, of course.
On March 11, Bella was spotted out in Londontown holding hands with her sister Gigi Hadid. The models were both sporting their intense bleached brows and hair pulled back tight. However, despite Gigi’s new bright platinum blonde look, it was her brunette sister who looked like a mix between Cher Horowitz and Elle Woods in a pink plaid suit.
The look was extremely Bella Hadid in most respects given that the jacket was worn open over a cropped white shirt that was left mostly unbuttoned to show off the abs the model surely works hard for. Still, the pink Burberry pantsuit itself could easily have been pulled straight from the costume department of the 1995 classic Clueless or the 2001 Reese Witherspoon vehicle Legally Blonde (though both film’s leading ladies would probably get the look tailored).
May I approach the bench, Your Honor? I’d like to present Exhibit A:
The matching pink shades? I am totally buggin’!
Bella Hadid is clearly on a mission to bring back the most controversial trends of the ’90s and Y2K fashion just to see whether she can pull them off. Spoiler alert: She can. So far, she’s given us low-rise pants (see above), skinny brows, brown lip liner, and even freakin’ Bermuda shorts. What’s next, you ask? The maxi denim skirt that was oh so popular circa the year 2000.
On the evening of March 11, the model stepped out in a dark-wash denim maxiskirt chunky black boots, leather fingerless gloves, and even a sweet little choker necklace that is giving me flashbacks to its (likely) much cheaper counterparts from Claire’s or Limited Too. Though the look was basically made up Y2K staples, Bella was able to modernize the look with a corset-esque bustier top, which she wore untucked.
What, like it’s hard?
